Workshop Details

Saturday, March 4th

Led Full Primary Class Saturday, March 4th, 9:30am – 11:30am

This is a guided class in which the entire Primary series of Ashtanga Yoga is taught. (Beginning Series)  Modifications will be taught for more challenging asanas.

Shoulder Opener Workshop Saturday, March 4th, 1:30pm – 3:00pm

This workshop will focus on alignment and opening of the shoulder joint, with emphasis on its relationship to the chest and rib cage.  We will use props and specific postures to isolate and explore this all too often uncharted territory.

Backbend Workshop Saturday, March 4th, 3:15pm – 4:45pm

Students will investigate the structure and anatomy of backbends through both intellectual and visceral understanding.  Emphasis will be placed on technical alignment through conscious awareness of breath.

Basic Pranayama and Sitting Practice (Meditation) Saturday, March 4th, 5:00pm – 5:45pm

Focus will be on building a foundation for a daily pranayama practice with simple breathing exercises for cleansing and activating the lungs.  The first pranayama techniques from the Ashtanga System will be taught and practiced followed by sitting practice/meditation.

Sunday, March 5th

Mysore Style Class Sunday, March 5th, 9:30am – 11:30am

A traditional class format in which students are taught the Ashtanga sequence “pose by pose” according to their skill level.  The instructor gives a great deal of attention to all new students and strong, conscious adjustments to experienced students. 

Arm Balance Workshop Sunday, March 5th, 9:30am – 11:30am

This will be a fun workshop for students of all levels to learn the foundational principals of arm balances.  We will practice headstand, handstand and variations of these two poses in order to develop the strength and understanding required to practice safely. *It is NOT required that students already know how to do headstand or handstand to come to this workshop.

Hip Opener Workshop Sunday, March 5th, 9:30am – 11:30am

Students will learn how to isolate and create opening in the hip joint through specific asanas, as well as modified postures.  Emphasis will be placed on protecting the knees.

Biographies

Rolf Naujokat began his yoga studies in India in 1975 with traditional Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and Japa Kriya. He lived in India for more than 25 years and taught there and in Nepal for over 16 years. Then he taught in Bali, Thailand and Singapore for 5 years. He was certified by his guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in 1996 to teach the Ashtanga Yoga system. He practices the 4th series and has studied every year since 1990 for 3-4 months in Mysore with his guru.

Marci Ciu-Naujokat has been practicing Yoga since 1990 and first learned the Ashtanga Yoga system in 1998 in Mysore, India from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and then Rolf Naujokat in Goa, India. She completed the Yoga Works Teacher Training with Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford in 2000, then apprenticed under Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller for more than 4 years. She taught Ashtanga Yoga at Yoga Works and now teaches together with Rolf.
